A Signed Promise  ·  Established 1962

A guarantee that outlives its first owner.

In 1962, Tomaso and Elena Karra inscribed a single line into the ledger of the new atelier on Via dei Macci: ogni pezzo è nostro, per sempre — every piece is ours, forever. Sixty-three years and three generations later, that line is the firm's only warranty. There is no time limit on the promise, no clause for "normal wear," no fee schedule posted by the door.

Any Neri Karra piece, in any condition, can be returned to the Florence atelier for restoration by the same lineage of master artisans — seven of whom have held the needle for over twenty-five years. The artisan who originally constructed a bag, when still living and willing, is consulted before any repair is begun. The work is done in-house. The leather is matched from the same Conceria Walpier stock the firm has drawn on since its founding.

Restoration, then, is not an ancillary service. It is the original contract.

The Provenance Dossier  ·  Four Steps

Authentication, treated as forensic evidence.

A vintage or secondary-market Neri Karra piece can be submitted, by appointment, for a written Provenance Dossier. The dossier is a bound document, not a certificate of authenticity — it records what can be verified and, with equal honesty, what cannot.

  1. 01

    Artisan Monogram Verification

Every bag carries the personal monogram of the single master artisan who constructed it, stitched into the lining by hand. The dossier cross-references this monogram against the firm's internal registry of all 22 artisans, active and retired, back to 1962.

  2. 02

    Tannery Stamp Validation

All Neri Karra leather is drawn exclusively from Conceria Walpier, partners since 1962. The dossier confirms the vegetable-tanned hide's grain, patina development, and edge finish against current Walpier production samples — a method unavailable to any third-party authenticator.

  3. 03

    Construction Forensics

Saddle-stitch density, thread twist, hardware batch marks, and lining pattern are measured and compared to the original Modello specification sheet held on archive. Anomalies are recorded plainly; substitutions are noted without judgment.

  4. 04

    Issued Certificate & File Retention

A numbered Provenance Dossier is issued in the buyer's name, countersigned by Beatrice Karra-Ferrante. A duplicate is retained in the atelier archive in Florence indefinitely — so that the next owner, in another generation, may request it again.

Inquiries are accepted by appointment. Allow six to eight weeks for a complete dossier.

A Continuing Relationship

Buying a new piece is the cleanest way to enter the guarantee.

Restoration is the second chapter of a long contract. The first is the acquisition — a Neri Karra piece from the current collection, accompanied by the same lifetime promise issued in 1962.
